Discussion on Contemporary Issues
(Not being held during the summer months)
Every Monday afternoon at 3:30 PM, in the Fellowship Hall, Desert Garden Church facilitates a discussion on Contemporary Issues. These discussions are open to the public. The research is done by informed members of our congregation, and both current and historical data are presented using Power Point and film presentation.
Discussions focus on the role and responsibility of the United States in regard to both domestic and foreign policy issues. Every effort is made to present information in an objective and unbiased manner. Attendees are welcome to participate and provide input during open discussion, and while discussions reveal differing points of view, every effort is made to avoid using the discussion as a platform for political ideology. The subject matter can, and does, change in times of crises or national emergencies to that which the attendees wish to discuss. Over the past year we have spent considerable time on Issues such as Climate Change, Energy, Health Care Reform, World Population, North American Free Trade Agreement, and Globalization and its Effects on the United States.
During the Current Year, using Materials from the Foreign Policy Association, we have discussed the Worlds Rising Powers, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Energy and the Global Economy. During January and February the following issues will be presented.
Background materials may be ordered for those that desire them but it is not a pre-requisite to attend and participate. All individuals who are concerned about our country and its future and wish to become better informed are welcome.
