The United Church of Christ was founded in 1957 when America's oldest Protestant denomination, the Congregational Church, merged with the Evangelical and Reformed Church. The UCC has a longstanding tradition of actively fighting oppression and striving for the ideal that every human being is created equal in the eyes of God. UCC member churches are given the freedom to govern themselves. This means the members have the opportunity to voice their opinions, take leadership roles and help define the destiny of their church.
Desert Garden United Church of Christ was established in 1979. We embrace the teachings and philosophies of both ancient and modern Christianity. Our worship services are a time of reflection, renewal, revelation and laughter (we believe God has a great sense of humor!) Our Senior Minister, Reverend Dr. Samuel Sawitski, leads our worship services. His extensive and diverse theological background allows him to present a fresh perspective on the teachings of Christ, what it means to be a Christian in today's world and how to maintain focus on living a life of faith. We believe incorporation of inspirational music is a key part of worship. We have been blessed with a musical power duo. Dennis Marsollier heads our Music Department which includes the Chancel Choir and Claudia Marsollier leads the Bell Choir and is our organist/pianist.
Our Care Ministries program exemplifies our overarching belief that our members are family. Throughout the years, Care Ministries has provided comfort and support to our members in need. Please see our Care Ministries page for more information on this unique program.
Desert Garden offers Bible study classes and special topic studies at announced times during the year led by Reverend Dr. Sawitski. Lay leadership offers ongoing weekly Bible studies such as, "Living the Questions." In addition, we have many other fun activities such as Alla's Book Club, Mens and Womens Fellowship, dinners, ice cream socials, potlucks
(we love to eat!) and many more. So, come join us for worship, Bible study, share a meal or participate in all of them. Let us show you how the rock of our faith and the warmth of our love can be a perfect church home for you.

BECOMING A MEMBER OF DESERT GARDEN UCC
Any person may become a full member of the church upon public confession of his/her faith, or a reaffirmation of a previous confession of faith, or by a letter of transfer from another Christian Church. We also offer an associate membership for those who want to retain ties with a home church. Winter visitors often choose this option. An associate member has all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of a full member. Associate members join DGUCC during a worship service in the same way full members do.
